Barcelona have started planning their squad planning for next season, with very little to play for in the remaining campaign. One piece of business they have been working on is the renewal of Sergi Roberto, whose current deal expires in six weeks’ time.

Roberto’s future had looked unclear upon the announcement of Xavi Hernandez’s decision to step down as head coach, but with the 44-year-old now staying on for next season, Roberto’s renewal is back on the table.

As per MD, an agreement has now been reached between Barcelona and Roberto. The 32-year-old will sign a one-year extension, although there is no option for this to be extended. Everything is done now, but the announcement may be delayed until after the season comes to a close.

Barcelona fans have been outspoken on the possibility of Roberto renewing, so this news is unlikely to go down well with him. However, in terms of experience, having him around will be very beneficial for Xavi at the very least.
