Miami Dolphins New WR Odell Beckham Jr. Gets Honest On Big Opportunity
Peter Casey-USA TODAY Sports

The Miami Dolphins were motivated to get a deal done with free agent wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. immediately after meeting with him the first time. It took some time, but the two sides were able to work things out and came to an agreement on a deal for the 2024 NFL season.

While the Dolphins did not have a “need” at wide receiver, Beckham gives them a dangerous No. 3 option in the passing game. It also gives Tua Tagovailoa yet another weapon to work with to take the offense to the next level.

Following the move to sign with the Dolphins, Beckham has now spoken out and revealed his thoughts on his new team and the opportunity that signing with Miami gives him.

Odell Beckham Jr. Gets Honest On Big Opportunity With Miami Dolphins

In a quote shared by Joe Schad of the Palm Beach Post, Beckham opened up about his role and opportunity with the Miami Dolphins.

“You just all push each other. And for me at this place, my life, and my career, I haven’t been the No. 1 in a minute, you could go back and look at targets, you can go look at anything. That’s not really where I’ve been at. So, just understanding your role and how can you be the very best at that role? How can you maximize those opportunities?”

Beckham continued forward talking about how Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel sold him on the team and his role within the offense.

“Watching the film, this reminds of a place I had a lot of success at, as far [as] the Giants. The timing. And all the things [McDaniel] preaches. We talked about football and it got me excited. … Coach was mentioning that on third down, they were getting a lot of doubling both of them [Hill and Waddle]. And there’s just a lot of room for opportunity.”

Last season with the Baltimore Ravens, Beckham struggled to find a consistent role and connection with Lamar Jackson. He ended the year with 35 receptions for 565 yards and three touchdowns.

Looking ahead to the 2024 season with the Miami Dolphins, Beckham will be able to play the No. 3 role with very little pressure on him from opposing defenses. Both Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle will garner the majority of the focus from defenses. That could bode very well for Beckham to put up big numbers.

After a successful season in 2023 that ended with a disappointing loss against the Kansas City Chiefs in the playoffs, the Dolphins are doing everything they can to take the next step. On paper, they absolutely look like a legitimate Super Bowl contender.

It will be interesting to see what kind of production Odell Beckham Jr. has with the Miami Dolphins this season. He sounds like he’s in a great place and fully bought into the offensive game plan. Hopefully, that translates to success on the field.
